About Me
My history with woodworking, and my passion for my work
When you love the work you do, and understand it deeply, it leads to a higher quality of workmanship. Everything I design, build, and install comes from a rich history of working with wood and serving clients with projects they will love for their lifetime.
What makes my work different
Every piece I design, build, and install will have a specific and unique hands-on process. You won’t find any corners being cut, and I’m only satisfied if you love the result.
There are three main characteristics of how I work that I feel benefit my clients the most.
- 01. I am a perfectionist
Nothing sub-par or “jack leg” leaves my shop. Similarly, when I leave an install job, the work that remains will have received my full attention to detail, fit, and functionality. This ensures that the end user gets a product that is durable, elegant, and suited to their needs.
- 02. I am honest
Clients I have worked with will tell you I’m not afraid to express my opinions on quality of materials, feasibility of design, or suitability for the intended use. They are generally grateful for the help in thinking a project through and avoiding pitfalls.
- 03. I am creative
When a difficult situation presents itself, instead of looking at it as a roadblock, I will look for an efficient and effective solution. My clients have peace of mind knowing I can finesse my way through a problem, where others may beat it into submission.
My Story
I have grown up with wood all of my life.
My Grandfather was a timber faller in the California redwood country. My dad was a lumber grader and is a hobby woodworker. When it comes to wood, I have sawed it, ripped it, split it, logged it, bucked it, stacked it, sorted it, hauled it, studied it, glued it, planed it, smoked salmon with it, built all manner of things with it, and have removed numerous splinters of it.
Other than my family experiences, my work experience in high school building trades and shop classes planted the desire to learn more about woodworking and possibly making it my career.
College
While attending Pensacola Christian College, I gained my initial building trades experience setting doors part time for a property manager and developer in the area.
I graduated with BS degrees in both business management and marketing in 1997. That summer I worked with a handyman doing all manner of projects before taking a “career job” in sales.
Four years of sales convinced me to pursue my real love of custom woodwork, taking it from a hobby to a career.
Understanding the beauty of wood
My passion for over a decade has been to create for clients beautiful projects with the wonderful and resilient medium of wood. I am a connoisseur of fine wood figure, and enjoy the process of selecting stock that has an abundance of character and natural beauty, and incorporating that character to where it will best accentuate and enhance the project.
I especially like to work with local reclaimed wood, which due to it’s history, generally has a unique character and patina. Supporting local businesses makes sense to me, and I make every effort to purchase lumber and sheet goods from local suppliers and vendors.
